The Painful Lesson That Led Me Here
What I’m about to share with you next is a lesson no one should have to learn, but unfortunately, more people have this experience than you can count.
My mom passed away 13 years ago in Michigan in a nursing home. We had a measly $1500 burial policy which didn’t begin to cover her final expenses. If you know anything about Michigan winters they last a while. She wasn’t laid to rest until April the following year because of the frozen ground. For every day she wasn’t buried, our family was charged $150. Also, because my mother was an obese woman, her casket had to be special ordered. It took years to settle the debt. At the end, we barely had enough for a head stone.
I felt embarrassed and ashamed that we didn’t have enough to bury our mother. I felt like I failed her. And then I started thinking about my daughter and I knew I didn’t want her to go through what I went through.
But with every hardship, there’s a lesson. I didn’t know that horrible experience would inspire me to do what I’m doing right now.
This isn’t the first time I’ve had this opportunity to come to me. As a matter of fact, I’m a shining example of how the third time's the charm. My biggest obstacle to changing my life was ME.
Like most people, we tend to run from things that are uncomfortable. One is death, the other is opportunity. While death scares me, I know I can’t outrun it. Now opportunity, scares the crap out of me.
What if I fail? What if this is a pyramid scheme? What will my friends think, “Oh here she goes with trying to start her own business again, and at her age?”
I finally had a good job. They let us work from home and the pay and benefits are decent. I was DONE until I got a pop up from Messenger that changed my life and made me want to try again.
